Global Remittances For the Holidays: Fast and Easy With ReadyRemit

Every Saturday as I woke up to the smell of coffee and arepas breezing through the apartment, my mother and I went to the local Expresito Carga to send “gifts” back home to family in Colombia. Rain or shine, hot or cold, we lined up at the store. I could tell that it was important for her.

Like many other Hispanic families, we were just part of a growing group of Americans in 2001 that sent global remittances back to their home countries throughout the year, but especially during the holidays. The reasons vary but include seasonal work, immigration, or just familial ties abroad. Back in 2001, $72.3 billion was remitted, now up to about $794 billion in 2022. The opportunity here to support these groups is massive.

I always think about those early Saturday mornings with my mom. This is why I am happy to work at an organization that supports the ability to remit globally. As I’ve grown older, I have realized and learned more about why offering secure, compliant, and reliable global remittances are an important piece of international capital flows.

These remittance types are important to me and many others because they:

Help provide economic support to families and communities back home.

Encourage cultural exchange to help preserve heritage and traditions.

Promote inclusion by encouraging recipients to access financial services.

Thinking back on the opportunity here to support these global transfers, which according to the World Bank is expected to surpass $840 billion in 2023, is a payments imperative. Furthermore, it is a strategic move that aligns with the evolving payments needs of an ever-globalized world
